What We Do
mostly coding
Code Israel / CodeSchool IL started originally in 2015 when some yeshiva bohhurim asked me to learn javascript with them so they could get jobs and buy meat for their cholent. At the time it was a series of informal lessons that I made up on the spot to teach fundamentals in HTML, CSS, and angularJS (which was the style at the time). It was my hope then to use this experience as a jumping off point to work as a javascript instructor in the industry and to be a practical and thought leader.
Since October
Since October 2023, Code Israel has engaged in volunteering - primarily for the families of those affected by the ongoing war. We have volunteered in schools teaching math, and doing logistics in support of displaced communities.
As we look forward to "rotating back to life", we've refreshed our course materials, taken on mentorship roles in interview preparation - most importantly though, we're getting back to running coding events!
Next up
In the near term, our focus will be on developing teaching talent from amongst the participants of our events. Bringing more teachers on board helps us expand our ground operations (reaching more students) and gives the teachers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a project at an entry level position. This is a win-win that generates organizational value for Code Israel, and career prospects for the teachers. It is a way to break the catch-22 of needing experience to get a job, and needing a job to get experience.
Your support allows us to expand and build the industry bottom up!
